Running a Tails ISO on macOS with M1 chip with UTM

So it has been a while since posting, but I have been really interested in open source intelligence, anonymity, and privacy the last few years. I recently bought a Mac with an M1 chip and have been surprised how difficult it has been to get some *nix distros to run, even from a basic ISO image. A recent excapade was with the Tails privacy distro. Typically this distro would not work on an M1 as it requires the intel chipset. In all my reading, UTM should have been able to fill that gap via emulation. I finally got it to work. It is incredibly slow, so other guru's can likely help me tweak the UTM config to make it a little more snappy, please feel free to respond.

Steps:

1.) Download the ISO image from https://tails.boum.org/install/vm/index.en.html

2.) Download the UTM app: https://mac.getutm.app/

3.) Open UTM, click the + button in the upper menu

4.) Select Emulate
5.) Select Linux
6.) Set the location for the ISO on the next screen
7.)Ensure the next screen is configued as seen below
8.)Accept the default storage settings on the next screen
9.)Setup a shared directory if you wish, I did not:
10.) At the next screen, name your image and select "Open VM Settings", click Save
11.)Go to the QEMU settings on the left, UNCHECK "UEFI Boot" and "RNG Device", click save
12.) Launch the VM by pressing the Play icon in UTM:
As mentioned in the beginning, settle in and get comfortable, it takes a while to boot. Once it does, go through the ISO configuration steps per your preference until you get to the desktop. If anyone has suggestions on UTM/QEMU config tweaks to make it run faster, please feel free to comment here. Enjoy!!
